This position is in the Oversight and Investigations Group (O&I Group) which advises and assists the Commission on conducting internal investigations, preparing for, and responding to, oversight inquiries and investigations by the U.S. Congress, the Government Accountability Office, and the SEC Office of Inspector General. The O&I Group advises and assists on executing internal investigations, negotiating the scope of oversight inquiries and preparing witnesses for congressional hearings.
Summary

Typical duties of this position are:
Serve as Counsel within the Oversight & Investigations Group of the Office of the General Counsel.
Advise the Associate General Counsel with respect to scoping, design and execution of internal investigations.
Advise the Associate General Counsel with respect to negotiation strategy for scoping appropriate responses to oversight inquiries.
Devise and/or review investigative work plans and execute and/or oversee them.
Manage complex document reviews for responsiveness, risk assessment and identification of information protected by privilege.
Participate in discussions with congressional staff regarding oversight inquiries.
Participate in preparation of agency employees and officials for witness interviews and hearing testimony.

You must be an active member of the bar in good standing

Qualifications

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. BASIC REQUIREMENT: All applicants must possess the following

Active membership of the bar in good standing in any state, territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the commonwealth of Puerto Rico. (Note: proof of bar membership will be required before entry on duty.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting the basic requirement, applicants must also meet the minimum qualification requirement.
SK-14: Applicant must have at least three years post-J.D experience identifying legal issues, providing legal analyses, providing legal solutions/recommendations, and preparing legal documents, such as opinions, briefs, pleadings, and motions, which also includes at least two years:
Practicing civil litigation by conducting research and providing advice regarding legal issues/matters, or experience as a federal judicial clerk;
Defending clients in congressional investigations;
Conducting complex internal investigations and preparing risk assessments and/or compliance improvement recommendations; and
Advocating orally and drafting legal memoranda, pleadings, motions and briefs.
